2010 Year End Letter

We hope that your new year has started well and that the remainder is rich with opportunity and joy. We appreciate the opportunity to serve your legal needs during the past year and we look forward to serving your continued needs into the future. As our client, friend, stakeholder, trustee, judge, creditor, opposing counsel, court staff, or community member, we are committed to YOU and your needs!

We know you have a choice when seeking a lawyer and we strive to validate your trust through dedicated and competent advocacy, integrity and compassion. Further, we understand the many demands upon your time and we continually strive to improve efficiency in meeting your needs. Our primary goal is to assist our clients in achieving their legal, personal and business objectives, and to zealously advocate for our clients and for justice during the best and worst of times.

Your faith in us and our firm also enables us to provide charitable support to our community both through direct financial support and pro bono representation. During the 2010 calendar year, we provided nearly $70,000 in support to our community including:

a) Over 100 pro bono hours directly to local non-profit organizations representing in-kind donations of over $25,000.

b) Over 125 pro bono hours directly to low income individuals unable to meet the financial burdens of legal representation representing in-kind donations of $28,125.00

c) Direct donations representing over $15,000 to organizations including the Broward Health Foundation, Broward House, Care Resource, Children's Diagnostic and Treatment Center, Equality Florida, Florida Bar Foundation, GLAAD, Lambda, Pride Center, Stonewall Library, political and judicial causes (consistent with campaign allowances).

d) George Castrataro, continues to volunteer as an active board member for Care Resource and is an appointed member of the Broward County Housing Council.

Over the past year we have taken substantial steps to improve our customer service, competencies, and overall infrastructure to better meet your needs. Most notably we have:

1) Office Relocation and Expansion: Several months ago we embarked upon the complete design and build out of a new main office in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The new office will more than double our existing size and feature nearly 4,000 square feet of space, substantially increased parking availability, video surveillance (for your security), and will be located within walking distance to the US Federal Court and is less than .5 miles from the Broward County Court. We anticipate the space will be completed in February of 2010 and will keep you informed as to our move date.

a) Privacy – We know that privacy is essential when dealing with your personal business and we have taken steps to ensure all staff with client contact have private offices which are fully sound insulated. Further steps have been taken to enhance the physical security of your paper and electronic records.

b) Convenience – The new office location is steps from downtown and easily accessed from I-95, US1, Broward Blvd, and Sunrise Blvd.

2) Expanded and Reorganized Human Resources: During the 2010 year we doubled our staff to better meet your needs and now maintain six full time positions and numerous contract and part-time staff to best meet your needs. We are continuing to listen to your feedback to develop the most effective use of our human resources. Most recently we further expanded our bankruptcy team to better meet the needs of our clients, creditors, trustees, and judges.

3) Improved Communication: Our website was also fully redesigned in 2010 and now allows us to maintain dynamic and regularly updated contact with our clients and community. Our website now contains helpful information and will continue to be expanded with articles and content relevant to our practice areas and is expanded weekly. We have begun providing monthly electronic updates to our clients and are working to expand our billing system to allow online access. We also implemented a client event tracking system via [email protected] that allows full tracking of inquiries from start to resolution. We have added new pages on Twitter and Facebook which will mirror our web blog.

4) Enhanced Technology: Our investment in technology is perhaps the most substantial in both hardware and software designed to ensure the most timely and responsive handling and management of your case.

a) Client Services – Our practice fully relies on the industry gold standard software platforms and maintains the newest versions and unlimited access to support. We have fully implemented the Lexis Time Matters system to manage the day-to-day aspects of case management and Lexis PC Law to ensure billing and trust accounts are properly maintained. In 2010, these systems were migrated to be an independent physical server hosted in our office and remotely mirrored each evening. Our bankruptcy section has stayed on the cutting edge with the implementation of BestCase Bankruptcy Software Version 20 and the sister software MyECF Mail which has automated the electronic handling of all federal bankruptcy filings.

b) Research & Litigation Support – In 2010, we upgraded our research and litigation support resources to include Westlawnext and several hundred of the most respected and relied upon legal resources, cases, statutes, journals, and treatises.

c) Legal Development – Our firm has actively participated in a varied range of educational trainings and well exceeded the hours established in the CLE requirements of the Florida Bar.
